Caring For Your Overdenture
Your overdenture snaps onto implants or attachments for a secure, stable fit, far steadier than a traditional denture. Keeping the denture and the attachments clean is what makes it last and keeps the gum and bone around your implants healthy. Here is how to care for it.
Getting Used To It
- Practice snapping it in and out as we showed you. It gets easier quickly.
- Some tenderness around the attachments the first days is normal.
- Start with soft foods, then add more as you get comfortable.
Cleaning The Attachments
- Clean around each implant or attachment daily. Plaque collects right where they meet the gum.
- Gently brush the attachment areas and rinse well.
- Keeping these clean protects the gum and bone holding your implants.
Cleaning & Night Care
- Rinse after meals and brush the denture daily with a denture brush and mild soap or cleaner, not regular toothpaste.
- Take it out at night so your gums can rest, and soak it in water or denture solution.
- The snap attachments wear over time and are replaced periodically. That is normal upkeep.
Call Us If
- The denture no longer snaps in securely or feels loose.
- A sore spot that is not improving. A quick adjustment fixes it.
- The gum around an implant is red, swollen, or bleeds.
- Anything feels off with the fit or an attachment.
How To Make Your Overdenture Last
Your overdenture lasts and stays comfortable when both the denture and the implants under it are kept clean and well maintained.
- Clean around the implants every day, this is what prevents gum infection around them (peri-implantitis).
- Take the denture out at night and clean it daily so it stays fresh and the gums stay healthy.
- Keep your regular visits so we can check the implants, the fit, and replace worn attachments as needed.
Keep it and the implants clean, and your overdenture serves you well for years!
